Preface...

Old high school classmates and current drinking buddies, Phil and Don find themselves transported into a Crypts & Crusades role-playing adventure they had abandoned five years earlier. If that wasn't bad enough, it seems that some of the non-player characters, or Extra Dungeon Personalities (EDPs) as they now prefer to be called, have taken on a life of their own during the extended downtime and have veered away from the normal script. Fortunately for the daring duo, there is plenty of beer and they manage to get a little help along the way from an inquisitive but emotional ranger, a home-brewing, pub-owning dwarf and his ogre bartender, a grumpy old gardener and a host of other colorful characters. But will it be enough to defeat the crypt's antagonist, locate a powerful relic and get out alive?

Phil frowned. “What if it’s another trap?"

“Then we’ll just deal with it like we have everything else so far.” Don grasped the metal lever inside the recessed area of the wall and pulled. With a loud grating sound, a section of rock wall slid forward and then rolled to the side, revealing a dark opening and emitting a foul-smelling waft of air, carrying the distinct odor of something long dead. “Damn,” Don said waving his hand under his nose. “Smells like me after a couple bean burritos.”

“Such honesty,” Phil said taking a step back, waiting for the rank air to dissipate. “We should let that clear out some.”

“Ok. Care for a beer while we wait?”

“You know me all too well,” Phil said, nodding. “And a little liquid courage might be a good thing right now.” Opening the Infinity Bag, Phil called up the barrel of ale and he and Don lugged it out onto the ground and filled two mugs. Perched on the fallen log they waited for the stench of death to fade.
